French Revolution

Revolution is the outbreak that take birth when section of society feels the current governing system is exploiting it and gives no scope for its development. The world has seen many revolutions that started a change in society and also gave certain ideas. French revolution, took place in 18th century, is considered as one of the most important world event. The monarchy system of France was abolished by the revolution. The ideas of liberty and equality was given to world. Republic was established. But why the revolution take place? Variety of factors has been discussed in the chapter with basic principles and ideologies responsible for it. Then the impact of this revolution has been discussed in the chapter.

Socialism in Europe and Russian Revolution

The French Revolution created a way of creating a dramatic change in the way in which society was structured. Many groups in Europe wanted to bring revolutions. Liberals where those who accepted though, some change were necessary, but wished for a gradual shift. Radicals wanted to restructure society by radical and violent means. ‘Conservatives’ where group of people who was against any change to system. Liberals and radicals where concerned about the problems of industrial labours. At this time idea of socialism came into existence. This is the concept which is against private ownership. The idea flourished in Europe in 19th century. Socialist leaders came into existence but a government based on this idea happened after Russian Revolution. Tsar Nicholas II was over throned. Vladimir Lenin was leader of the first socialist government in Russia in 1917. The series of event that led to happen this is known as Russian revolutions. In the chapter we would be discussing the idea of socialism and important aspects of Russian Revolution.

Nazism and the Rise of Hitler

Adolf Hitler is the name we commonly hear as synonym of someone very cruel. He is one of the most cruel leader world had ever seen. The chapter is about rise of Hitler and his concept of Nazism in Germany. It all started with loss of Germany in World War-I. The defeat of Imperial Germany and the abdication of the emperor gave an opportunity to parliamentary parties to recast German polity. After ward republic was not accepted by people latter because it had to accept the harsh treaty of Versailles. Germany was under economic and political crises. It led to Hitler’s rise to power. He promised to German people for their better future. Then a series of events made Hitler dictator of Germany. These events are discussed in this chapter. His fall happened during world war-II. That is also a series of events which we have to study in this chapter.

Forest Society and Colonialism

Forests are important source of many industrial raw materials. Also it is the livelihood of the nomads and tribes. These two stakeholders, industrialists and nomads had their own claim of these things. During era of Industrialization and colonialism from 18th to 20th century forests were exploited by colonial rule for raw materials. The demand was growing and so was deforestation. The local people life went miserable. They rebelled. There were many such events. The chapter discuss all these aspects.

Pastoralists in the Modern World

The chapter is about nomadic pastoralists. Nomads are people who do not live in one place but move from one area to another to earn their living. In many parts of India we can see nomadic pastoralists on the move with their herds of goats and sheep, or camels and cattle. Importance of pastoralism has been discussed in societies like India and Africa. We will be discussing about the way colonialism impacted their lives, and how they have coped with the pressures of modern society.
