The following are the determinants of conformity:
- Size of the group: Conformity is greater in a small group. It is easier to label a deviant member in a small group than a larger one. However, in a large group is there is a strong agreement among most members, and then the minority is likely to conform because of the group pressure.
- Nature of the task: In tasks that involve opinion about some topic, conformity will be more when opinion involves answers that may be either correct or incorrect and not strictly correct or incorrect.
